RECOMMENDED: Athlete preparation prior to practice/meets, what to bring to practice/meets, clothing, and shoes:
- Your athletes should always come prepared to train/run. We do recommend that all athletes drink plenty of water before, during and after practice/meets, as well as, light snacking. No matter what type of workout/run you tackle on any given day, going out on an empty stomach isn’t going to enhance your performance but more likely hinder it. Try and consume a light snack that includes carbohydrates to give you the energy you need to perform. It doesn’t need to be an entire meal, just something to get and keep you going. It is also a good idea after a vigorous workout, but within thirty minutes, to consume low-fat chocolate milk. Who doesn't love that idea?
- Please bring plenty of water, and if you want gatorade, with you to practice. On track meet days all athletes need to bring with them water, gatorade, and plenty of snacks. These meets can last for many hours. Our coaching staff will be talking to the athletes about appropriate nutrition for them to obtain their optimal performance.
- All athletes need a comfortable pair of running shoes, shorts, t-shirts, and in colder weather, long athletic style pants. It's always a good idea in inclement weather times to wear layers to practice, take off layers during practice, and then put layers back on after practice when the temperatures are always changing during this season.
- We also highly recommend wearing compression style shorts or longer leggings that cover the hamstrings to be worn under their shorts during meets and practices. This helps to prevent hamstring pulls, which we see a lot of during the cross country season.
